W.I.P. – BASEL Art Week
The gallery is filled up with freshly handmade furniture – and now DENNIS invites you to join forces with Bureau Detours in order to furnish Basel with swings, stools, benches and more. The aim is to empty the gallery during Basel Art Week and show how to solve everyday situations and needs in urban space.
The notorious urban collective Bureau Detours step inside the art world's white cube, at Gallerie Karin Sutter with their rolling DENNIS Design Center, to test and teach how to gain local identity, through use of the urban spaces.
You are invited to stop by the gallery, or attend the three events, Thursday we invite you to join our Easy Opening, Friday we celebrate the DENNIS official bookrelease, and Saturday is the final Take away party at 21h.
Our aim with DENNIS Design Center is to reinforce local identity, by showcasing how design, craftsmanship and urban studies transforms into useable designs, inspired by local demand and site specific issues.
DENNIS works as a platform for Bureau Detours when doing research, testing and developing new design in relation to the public space.
The design centre is a pop-up unit created by Bureau Detours in 2011, that seek to challenge accustomed notions and perspectives we have on citylife and neighbourhoods. We have recently taken part in Milan Design Week, but it started as an icebreaker to engage in designdiscussions in Copenhagen 2011 at Metropolis Festival.
Work and Organization
Bureau Detours is a creative organization with great interest in creating social environments in public spaces. We operate on various platforms in a mix of art, design, architecture and citydevelopment. When we are engaged in a project, designers, carpenters, teachers, architects, electricians and visual artists work together to solve the task ahead.
Bureau Detours’ unique mix of disciplines, have created changes and surprises since 2006. Out of all these experiences we founded our own design center, to construct urban studies and present design methods in scale 1:1 in the public space.
We are based in Aarhus and Copenhagen in Denmark. But we are organized in a cell-like structure, and over the years we have created small cells in the following European cities: Oslo in Norway, Bordeaux in France, Milan in Italy and Rotterdam in The Netherlands. With every project in a new city, Bureau Detours´ aim is to create a local department that will provide insight to the city, and will become future allies. Check out: www.detours.biz
